The 24v cordless drill is not for your mom! That is, unless she is a tradeswoman or a hardcore DIYer. Most people are familiar with the 9.6v, 12v, and even 18v cordless drills. However, in today’s age the 12v and 18v drills are most common to the average person. But since we aren’t like average person, let’s look at the 24v cordless drill and how it compares to the rest!

Most of you, who found your way to our site, may not be familiar with the 9.6v drill. For those of you who are, you are in for a shocking surprise.

To make things simple, we can look at voltage as a measure of power. The higher that the voltage is, the more powerful the drill will be. You can even compare the 12v with 24v and say it is 2x as powerful. And believe me, it packs a punch.

Speaking of voltage, one of the down sides is the battery depending on your application. They all come with rechargeable batteries. Depending on the brand you may be able to recharge in less than an hour, where as some will take 12 hours or longer. If you are a DIY you may be okay with the factory battery. Otherwise, for the job site you should purchase a couple extras. That way when one dies, you can put it on charge, reload, and still have 1 spare. How many times have you gone to change a battery only to realize it was dead too?

Since the 24v cordless drill has so much power, you really need a way to support it. That is why you will most often see them in the hammer style and gun style as show below:

Not only have we advanced with the amount of power, there are also other features that make this drill superior. First, you can change the directional spin of the drill bit and you can increase or decrease the amount of torque. This is extremely important as you’ll see in a minute. Secondly, the design of most 24v drills are made in such a way that allows you to hold them for extended times with out fatiguing your muscles. And finally,

As I mentioned before, you can increase or decrease the amount of torque. This is important because a lot of the standard fasteners that you use will be stripped or destroyed by the power of this drill. So adjusting the torque can help you save a lot of headaches, not to mention using quality building materials.

Where would you use a 24v cordless drill? You can use them in the house or in the construction yard. These babies have enough power to drill through cement without overloading. If you aren’t experienced with using drills, you may want to try 18v first.

Believe it or not you can find a 24v cordless drill in most major hardware stores. The best times to buy are around Christmas and special holidays because of the sales. However, if you need one now, then your best bet is to look online. There are always bargains to be had whether you are looking for a used or brand new 24v drill. We recommend checking out Amazon or auction sites. It only takes a few minutes to make an account and start buying. If using Amazon we recommend you look for other things you might want to buy too. Often you will be able to combine shipping and/or get a large discount on multiple items. You may find one from $50 anywhere up to over $300 depending on the brand and its specific application.

That is the 24v cordless drill in a nutshell. Each brand will have their specifics, but you now have a general idea of what to look for. Just remember to take it easy the first go around. You are not going to believe the power packed in such a small unit!
